Who is it suitable for?
This qualification is designed for learners preparing to become early years educators, enabling them to work with children from birth to five years and gain knowledge of children aged five to seven years.

You should be at least 16 years old.
Early Years Educator: GCSE Requirements
The requirement for level 3 early years educators (EYE) to hold GCSE or Functional Skills in mathematics at Level 2 has been removed from ratio requirements in the early years workforce. You still need to hold a suitable level 2 English qualification in order to count within the staff to child ratios at level 3.
Learners must achieve:
- 10 mandatory units
- Job Placement 350 (hours)
How is this qualification structured?
Units are:
- EYE L3 WF 1 - Introduction to the role of the early years educator
- EYE L3 WF 2 - Holistic child development (Y/651/1391)
- EYE L3 WF 3 - Children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) EYE L3 WF 4 - Effective communication in an early years setting
- EYE L3 WF 5 - Safeguarding and welfare requirements
- EYE L3 WF 6 - Health, wellbeing and safety (
- EYE L3 WF 7 - Promoting an effective early years curriculum
- EYE L3 WF 8 - Assessment of children’s learning and development
- EYE L3 WF 9 - Understanding play for learning and holistic development
- EYE L3 WF 10 - Partnership working
How is it assessed?
To gain this qualification the learner will need to:
- Pass all units
- Show competence in a real work environment
Do you need to have access to practical placement?
Placements are required for the achievement of this qualification. A minimum of 350 placement hours is required.
How long does it take to complete?
This qualification will take 1 year to complete depending on experience.

Further education:
- Level 4 Certificate for the Early Years Advanced Practitioner
- NCFE CACHE Level 5 Diploma for the Early Years Senior Practitioner +
Which type of job roles can you apply for on completion?
Upon achievement of this qualification, learners will gain their license to practice and it is intended that learners will be able to enter the workforce as Early Years Educators. Learners can progress into various job roles in the statutory, voluntary, or private sectors such as:
- Educator in day nurseries
- Educator in nursery schools
- Educator in reception classes in primary schools
- Pre-school worker
