What does this qualification cover?
The Common Core of Skills and Knowledge Certificate is a professional credential that recognises the essential skills and knowledge required by individuals working in roles that support children, young people, and families.
This certificate encompasses a broad range of competencies that are considered foundational for effectively engaging with and assisting children and young people. These competences may include understanding child and adolescent development, recognising and responding to safeguarding concerns, promoting positive relationships and communication, and implementing evidence-based practices to support well-being and development.
The Common Core of Skills and Knowledge includes the following areas:
- Effective communication: How to engage with children, young people, and families
- Child development: How to support the development of children and young people
- Safeguarding: How to promote the welfare of children
- Supporting transitions: How to support children and young people through transitions
- Multi-agency working: How to work with other agencies
- Sharing information: How to share information.
Who is it suitable for?
The course is suitable for nannies, child-minders, au pairs and nursery staff wishing to register on the voluntary part of the Ofsted Childcare Register.
You do not need to have previous experience or qualifications in working with children to undertake this qualification.
What are the entry requirements?
Learners must be aged 16 or over. Must have a good level of English as the course is delivered in English.

This qualification allows a learner to count towards the Level 2 ratio as a qualified Level 2 Early Years Practitioner across the Early Years Workforce.
